Contract Dance Instructor Opportunity

The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is looking for a qualified, self-motivated Dance Instructor/Coordinator or combination of multiple people to teach in both the recreational and/or technical programs in Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Variety/Musical Theatre and Lyrical for the 2017/2018 season (class types dependant on instructor qualifications and abilities). This is a great contract opportunity for any experienced Dance Instructor or team. The successful candidate(s) will teach up to 25 (1 hour) classes per week and will be responsible for all choreography, costume selection—for technical, preparation for classes and providing quality classes in all agreed upon disciplines. The responsibilities include: administration including (but not limited to) recording and tracking student participation, maintaining and ordering costumes, producing a Christmas Showcase & a Year End Showcase, facilitating and travelling to up to 2 competitions annually, choreographing group numbers, facilitating rehearsals & additional bookings and corresponding between parents and dancers. The instructor will also have the opportunity to privately choreograph solos, duos and trios for competitive dancers as well as host a number of summer/winter workshops at their discretion (facility rental rates will apply).


Qualifications & Requirements: Strong background in dance with preference given to those with a minimum of 3 years dance teaching and program administration (with exams or certifications); loves working with children ages 3 - 18 years, and possesses good organizational skills. Excellent communication skills and a strong background in general administrative duties are also required. This contract can be awarded to a single individual who can demonstrate how all requirements can be met, OR the contracts could be awarded to a team of 2 (or more) people who will work together to meet the requirements.


The Instructor/Coordinator must also have a registered business license and be capable of collecting fees and making payments via cheque and credit card. They must also have Commercial Liability Insurance up to $2,000,000.00 and name the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality as additional insured. Interested participants should also have samples of choreography/dancing available upon request. A current First Aid ticket is an asset, acceptance dependant on a clear Police Information Check.
